Welsh-born Andrew Salter hasn't had the greatest of introductions to cricket. Although he started as early as 17, debuting for Glamorgan second eleven in 2010, it took nearly two seasons for him to stay in the reckoning of the first eleven team. As part of the ECB development programme, Salter played Grade cricket in Sydney and also represented several Walkes Minor Counties and Cardiff MCCU.

In 2013, Salter became the first Glamorgan player to claim a wicket off his first ball in County Championship debut in 56 years. With time, Salter's progress dipped massively and he struggled to pick wickets at a healthy average. Salter had a terrible 2016 County season as he ended up last on the list of Glamorgan's Championship and Royal London averages.

Towards the latter half of the 2017 domestic season, Salter showed glimpses of his batting ability and topped the list for most half-centuries for Glamorgan in the Championship season. Salter is known to be a gritty player with the bat and he, more often than not, provides crucial breakthroughs during middle overs of white-ball cricket.
