Adam Wheater is a wicket-keeper batsman and a product of the Essex cricket academy. He represented England at the under-19 level and found a place in the senior Essex team in 2011. He averaged over 40 in his first season but despite a decent season, he could not cement his place in the team because of James Foster, who was arguably the best wicket-keeper in the England cricket at that time.

To become a regular part of the playing eleven, Wheater decided to move to Hampshire. His batting prowess improved considerably but behind the stumps he struggled and eventually Michael Bates, an immensely talented wicket-keeper replaced him. Wheater still managed to be a part of the team purely as a batsman.

In the next season, poor batting form of Bates meant Wheater returned as a wicket-keeper batsman for Hampshire. He hold his place for a couple of years but lost it to Lewis McManus in 2016. Wheater went to kent on a loan and decided to stay with his first county team when they regain promotion but a certain stalwart James Foster still stood in his way.

In the 2017 season, Wheater was an important part of the Essex team across all formats. His handy runs in the lower middle order proved vital for Essex to win the county championship.
