A rookie Praveen Dubey made headlines when he was snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 10 Lakh in 2016. Without even playing a single first-class game, Dubey had an IPL contract at the age of 23. The all-rounder was a renowned name in the Karnataka Premier League and it was in the 2015 edition of the tournament where Dubey stole the show taking 10 wickets in 8 matches with an economy of under 7; it also prompted the Bangalore franchise to bid for him and thus he became the only player from Karnataka to feature  in the squad that season. But he couldn't impress Virat and Co. which meant he was benched throughout IPL 2017. Dubey was released by RCB in the following year.
A Leg-spinner by choice, Dubey originally hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh but plies his trade for Karnataka in the domestic circuit. It was the University Cricket Championship in 2012 that brought Dubey's talent to the table and he struck a few eye-catching knocks for his team - VBS University -  including a 61-ball swashbuckling hundred. Having decided to take up Cricket as a career, he came to Bangalore in search of better prospects. Dubey made his List-A debut for Karnataka in 2015 but wasn't given a long rope. Again in 2018, he made his way back into the state team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, however, failed to cement his spot in the team. It was in 2019, he got a fresh lease of life through some strong shows in the Karnataka Premier League which paved the way for his entry into the state team for Vijay Hazare Trophy. He played 5 matches and claimed 9 wickets without getting much chance to bat. Shreyas Gopal's poor form saw Dubey replacing him for the Semis and the final. In the summit clash, Dubey had a forgettable outing but he turned out to be the lucky charm as Karnataka were crowned the Champions for the fourth time.
