Delhi Capitals Women vs UP Warriorz, 5th Match
Delhi Capitals Women won by 42 runs
Delhi Capitals consolidate second place with another impressive win. That's all we have from this one. Thanks for joining in. Until next time, it's goodbye.
Jess Jonassen, Player of the Match: Tonight it was probably Jess the batter. Went for a few runs at the end (with the ball). I love batting. Nice that it came off tonight. The wicket was incredible. She definitely hits me for quite a few sixes in the nets (Healy). Happy to get one over her. Always an enjoyable competition when we come up against one another.
Meg Lanning, Delhi Capitals captain: Nice start to the tournament. Our batting has been great. I've thoroughly enjoyed batting here in India. So far so good. It's not surprising (200+ scores). Great advert for the game. Hope it continues. It's been very enjoyable so far. Everyone's very friendly. Great set-up here at Delhi Capitals.
Marizanne Kapp: I am enjoying the batting but not the bowling at the moment. I have been in really good form and I have confidence with the bat, that seems to be working. The openers have been exceptional, Meg again today, we have an outstanding team and Jess too was excellent, so good to see different players coming out and putting their hand up. I was a bit too full in the first match and short in this game, I have to adapt to the conditions. Sometimes it feels you can close your eyes and bat out there, once someone gets in it is difficult to get them out.
Alyssa Healy, UP Warriorz captain: That is T20 cricket. We went for 65 runs in the last 5 overs and lost 3 wickets in the powerplay. It was going to go one of two ways, we would have killed for Grace there at the end but Ismail did well. We gave away a few too many in the field. TM (Tahlia McGrath) was alone with the bat and we needed to give her support. We knew we had to come out firing, I was too loose against Jonno (Jonassen) in that over. The positive is we are doing a lot of good things but in a tournament like this it is hard to fix the small things. Fingers crossed we can correct those in a few days time at the CCI.
23:07 Local Time, 17:37 GMT, 23:07 IST: Delhi had this one wrapped up quite early in the chase. A brilliant spell of left-arm spin from Jess Jonassen took out the main threat of Alyssa Healy quite early, and along with Kapp, she left UP Warriorz reeling on 31/3. They only managed 33 in the powerplay, and from there it was just too much to do. Tahlia McGrath played a brilliant knock, and went on quite an onslaught there at the end, but even so UP have finished short by 42 runs. They made the big call of leaving out Grace Harris after her stunning performance the other night. The idea was to get Shabnim Ismail in and get some wickets with the new ball. But it didn't work out for them tonight, with the bowlers being put to the sword by Lanning and co.
UPW: 169-5 after 20 overs
19.6 Arundhati Reddy to McGrath, 1 run, thick inside edge this time as she swings hard. Only a single to finish. A brilliant knock from McGrath as she finishes 90 not out off 50 balls, but it's the Delhi Capitals who win comfortably by 42 runs
19.5 Arundhati Reddy to McGrath, FOUR, again into the boundary. What an onslaught this is from McGrath. In the slot around off, she steps across and swipes it through square leg
19.4 Arundhati Reddy to McGrath, SIX, full toss at the stumps, and McGrath swings it away fiercely over square leg
19.4 Arundhati Reddy to McGrath, wide, full ball down leg, McGrath swings and misses
19.3 Arundhati Reddy to Simran Shaikh, 1 run, flicked off the pads behind square
19.2 Arundhati Reddy to McGrath, 1 run, miscued in the air, Jemimah runs in from long-off, puts in a full-stretched dive but fails to get ther
19.1 Arundhati Reddy to McGrath, no run, full ball slanted in, McGrath looks to flick but is hit on the pad
Arundhati Reddy, right-arm fast medium, comes into the attack
UPW: 155-5 after 19 overs
18.6 Jonassen to Simran Shaikh, FOUR, driven powerfully through extra cover, should've been stopped in the deep but Kapp fails to cut it off
18.5 Jonassen to McGrath, 1 run, tossed up outside off, driven hard to sweeper cover
18.4 Jonassen to McGrath, 2 runs, almost gets yorked after stepping out. But she gets a thick outside edge and it runs away fine past the keeper
18.3 Jonassen to McGrath, FOUR, floated up outside off, McGrath steps out, gets to it on the full and hammers it over extra cover
18.2 Jonassen to McGrath, SIX, McGrath continues to smash it! Arm-ball on off, McGrath steps across, bends low and sweeps it all the way over backward square
18.1 Jonassen to Simran Shaikh, 1 run, length ball on off, Shaikh mistimes the slog to long-off
