Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans, 24th Match
Islamabad United won by 2 wkts
That's all for now. We will be back tomorrow. For now escape. Bye.
Shadab Khan | Islamabad captain: The way Faheem played and we know the calibre of him and he is showing it out there. Wasim and Farooqi brought the momentum back in our death overs, at one stage it looked like it will go to 230-240. Our batting is strong but our bowling is better than this to not consistently leak 200 every game. We shuffled the batting order today so that at the end of the tournament players like Faheem, Asif, Mubasir are coming in with form. If you get in on these pitches, it's very difficult to contain.
Mohammad Rizwan | Multan captain: If you look from the start, we are looking at 220 but they bowled well,we did not finish well and credit to Faheem Ashraf for his innings. The pitch is a belter and luck was with them, we did not finish well with our bowling. The difference was the 20 runs we did not get at the end while batting. The last two matches we lost, all those weaknesses were fixed today but we lost due to the finishing.
Faheem Ashraf | Player of the Match: I want to thank the almighty for helping me around. The plan was to take it deep and keep trying to take it till the end. Got to back yourself and go with the required rate every over and Wasim helped a lot.
Azhar Mehmood | Head Coach, Islamabad United: Absolutely brilliant from Faheem Ashraf, he showed his class and character. He's the best all-rounder in Pakistan. The way he finished the game was unreal, really proud of him. This is good for us, everyone is chipping in. We're not just relying on Azam Khan and Asif Ali. That's a good sign for our team. There's competition for slots and nobody can get complacent. We bowled really well in the last four overs, they executed their plans and controlled their nerves. A win like this gives us belief, Multan won the last few games against us. They're a quality side and winning against them gives us confidence. We will enjoy this victory and hopefully these guys keep doing well.
23:00 Local Time, 18:00 GMT, 23:30 IST: What a time to record your highest-ever run-chase in PSL history. Islamabad and Faheem Ashraf have pulled off a real heist here. Islamabad join Lahore on 12 points at the top of the table. Earlier on, Hales looked dangerous but fell to a Anwar Ali slower ball who also took Gurbaz's wicket. Colin Munro and Shadab Khan strung a partnership with the left-hander looking ominous. But Munro fell to Usama Mir and then the big wicket of Azam Khan was taken by the leggie early on and at that stage the game looked like it will go Multan's way. Asif Ali came out and along with Shadab eked out another stand before he went. Ihsanullah bowled a terrific last two overs as he got Shadab and Mubasir but Faheem who was there from a long time stood tall and took his side home. 30 was needed off 2 overs and 18 off the last one, Mohammad Ilyas started with a wide and then a lucky under-edge and a sensational reverse-scoop that went all the way brought it down to chaseable territory before a couple of uncharacteristic fumbles from Miller and Pollard dented Multan as Faheem finished it in style with a ball to spare. A terrific game of cricket - one that Multan will feel they should have won but Islamabad with their deep batting once again showed their strength in depth. Stay tuned for the presentations...
19.5 Mohammad Ilyas to Faheem Ashraf, FOUR, Faheem Ashraf you beauty! He has snatched another game from the clutches of defeat. Pollard at mid-off was close-in to prevent the quick single and try and effect a run-out, full on the stumps, plinked over the tall Trinidadian and it runs away. Islamabad break Multan hearts
Equation | 1 off 2, what will Rizwan do now? The field has to come up.
19.4 Mohammad Ilyas to Faheem Ashraf, FOUR, now Pollard of all people fumbles and two becomes four. That should be the game. What drama. Full on the stumps, drilled straight down the ground, Pollard gets across and tumbles to stop, lets it go. So so sloppy and the Islamabad dugout is thrilled
Equation | 5 off 3, Multan need Faheem's wicket or this game is gone.
19.3 Mohammad Ilyas to Faheem Ashraf, 2 runs, Miller at long-on fumbles and Faheem Ashraf rushes back for the second. Drama here. Full outside off, dragged to Miller who fumbles uncharacteristically
Equation | 7 off 4, Islamabad favorites now. Good to see Mohammad Ilyas have a smile still
Again a chat between Pollard and Mohammad Ilyas now
19.2 Mohammad Ilyas to Faheem Ashraf, SIX, incredible this is from Faheem Ashraf. A wide low full-toss outside off, Faheem Ashraf does not scoop instead just lifts it with the middle of the bat and gets it all the way over third man, who was inside, lands outside the cushions
Equation | 13 off 5
Another chat between Rizwan, Miller and Mohammad Ilyas
19.1 Mohammad Ilyas to Faheem Ashraf, FOUR, wow! Brilliant from Faheem Ashraf. A wide yorker outside off, Faheem laps and the thick under-edge misses off-stump and runs away to the fine-leg fence
Equation | 17 off 6
Rizwan runs up to Mohammad Ilyas to have a chat about the field
19.1 Mohammad Ilyas to Faheem Ashraf, wide, nearly does not land on the cutstrip on the off-side, the wide yorker goes wrong and Rizwan dives to his left to save runs
