Commentary

That's the opening game done then. The first half was pretty good. The end wasn't great though with the Knight Riders losing too many wickets too early. Decent crowd in today. If the pitch plays better we could have a good game tomorrow when MI Emirates taken on Sharjah Warriors. See you all tomorrow evening!

Rovman Powell | PoTM | Capitals captain: I think we went well. The info the guys sent while batting was useful. We were looking at 150 and we got 180. They have two quality spinners, so we tried to save wickets and extend at the back end with our power-hitters. The local lads were excellent. Bowled four overs each and that shows there is a lot of talent here in the UAE. I think it's just the make up of the team, so I bowled. I had a good day with the bat, so I thought I could chance my arm too. We can still improve in a few areas as a team. Good to start the tournament with a Player of the Match award (smiles).

Sunil Narine | Knight Riders captain: I think we started well with the ball but we bowled lose deliveries at the end and they capitalized. We didn't get a big partnership with the bat, but it's just the first game and hopefully we improve from the learnings today. It was swinging for the pacers. It wasn't spinning much and it was swinging, so I tried that ball to Uthappa and got him. I have been working on it for a while.

22:32 Local Time, 18:32 GMT, 00:02 IST: It was a sedate start from the Capitals but captain Rovman Powell injected momentum with the bat and handy contribtions from the others helped them get a competitive score. None apart from Paul Stirling got to double digits in the top order for the Knight Riders. In fact, only two of them got double digits. Powell with the ball got the key wicket of Stirling too and finished with two wickets. Definitely chasable target, but the Knight Riders didn't apply themselves. Mujeeb, Raza, Udana led the show with some tight bowling.
