Player of the Match

Not the thrilling game to start the tournament but there were entertaining moments, mostly for India with them finding a new star in debutant Amanjot and Deepti doing what she does best these days. South Africa will reflect on their indiscipline with the ball and want to bounce back strong. There is a lot of time left in this tournament and ultimately, both teams are gearing up towards the World Cup next month. So lot of prep time still left. It's a wrap from us for today. Until next time, this is Hari Sadanandan signing off on behalf of Abhinav Guha and Siva. Cheers!

Amanjot Kaur | Player of the Match: I was very happy to contribute to the team's win. Never thought I'd be playing like this, glad that I grabbed the chance. Was just thinking of scoring runs. She (Deepti) calmed my nerves, it's my debut, and she guided me well. Told me to just rotate strike and bat deep.

Smriti Mandhana | India captain: We spoke before the match that we need to show our character and the team did that. Partnership between Amanjot and Deepti showed that. Our bowlers then did their job on this pitch. With the start we got, we thought of getting to 120-130, but the batting they did we got about 15 runs more, credit to them. Batters told us that it's turning, it's a dry surface and our spinners believed they could do the job. Whatever they did, they succeeded.

Sune Luus | SA captain: I think we pulled it back nicely but then lost our way in the death overs. Deepti played a nice innings. It looked like playing India in India (about the spinning pitch). We needed some set batters to go deep but it just didn't happen. Still a long way to go.

21:58 Local Time, 19:58 GMT, 01:28 IST: A convincing win for India in this tournament opener. 148 was a par score on this slow surface and India's battery of spinners choked the life out of SA's batting line-up. There were a few starts but none of the hosts' batters got a proper tempo to their innings and the asking rate just kept shooting up with every passing over. India were clinical with the ball but they have debutant Amanjot and the seasoned Deepti to thank for saving them with the bat. The duo's partnership is what got India to a par score because at one stage, they were looking at a score of under 130, and that wouldn't have been enough on this pitch. South Africa were guilty too, of bowling poorly at the death with some of the tactics clearly looking illogical to say the least. In the end, India's bowlers showed their counterparts how to operate on this sluggish surface.

RSAW: 120-9 after 20 overs

19.6Deepti Sharma to Masabata Klaas, out Stumped!! India seal a comfortable win! A wicket to cap things off but the game was done way before. Deepti with her third scalp of the game. Slowed this down considerably, tempting the tailender to have a go and Klaas charged down to have a wild swing at it. Nowhere close to it and Yastika does the rest. Masabata Klaas st Yastika b Deepti Sharma 2(5)

Deepti Sharma to Masabata Klaas, THATS OUT!! Stumped!!

19.5 Deepti Sharma to Ayabonga Khaka, 1 run, fuller and on off, Khaka whips it past mid-wicket

Ayabonga Khaka, right handed bat, comes to the crease

19.4 Deepti Sharma to Sinalo Jafta, out Caught&Bowled!! Sharp return catch! So nonchalantly done by Deepti that didn't seem like a catch only, as there wasn't any celebration. Was fuller, flatter, Jafta drilled it hard but straight back at the bowler. Deepti is known for taking sharp catches off her bowling. Does it well. Sinalo Jafta c and b Deepti Sharma 11(8) [4s-1]

Deepti Sharma to Sinalo Jafta, THATS OUT!! Caught&Bowled!!

19.3 Deepti Sharma to Sinalo Jafta, 2 runs, fuller this time, wider, Jafta shuffles across and sweeps it hard past mid-wicket. Long-on gets across to mop up. They race back to get the second

19.2 Deepti Sharma to Sinalo Jafta, FOUR, better shot from Jafta! Fuller and wider, Jafta goes through the off-side with a thunderous drive. Nobody sweeping that side and it goes through

19.1 Deepti Sharma to Sinalo Jafta, 2 runs, dropped! Rana puts it down at backward point and also lets it pass to concede a brace. Was hit hard by Jafta, uppish and shoudl have been taken

Deepti Sharma [3.0-0-21-1] is back into the attack

Will be the seasoned off-spinning all-rounder to complete the formalities.

RSAW: 111-7 after 19 overs

18.6Sneh Rana to Masabata Klaas, no run, almost snuck through the gate! Nice dipping off break, spun off the pitch and beat Klaas on the inside edge. She had no clue about this and is lucky to survive

18.5 Sneh Rana to Masabata Klaas, 2 runs, speared fuller on off, Klaas drills this towards extra cover where Mandhana makes a half-stop with her leg and then gets backward to retrieve the ball

18.5 Sneh Rana to Masabata Klaas, wide, quicker delivery but just sliding down leg

18.4 Sneh Rana to Masabata Klaas, no run, fired fuller, Klaas just about digs it out
